Emergency Stop Anti-Dislodgement System – Root Canal Motor
Sep 26,2025
The system offers two reversal modes: - Automatic mode: Immediately after torque exceeds the limit, it performs a 0.5-second counterclockwise rotation, then resumes forward motion once stress is released. - Manual mode: The physician can actively trigger reversal using the handle button, making it ideal for adjusting complex root canal configurations.
# Emergency Stop Anti-Dislodgement System for Root Canal Motors
Root canal therapy is the cornerstone treatment for pulp and periapical diseases, with its core step being the mechanical preparation to thoroughly clean and shape infected root canals into a standardized form. However, traditional manual techniques often suffer from low efficiency and a higher risk of instrument fracture. With the advancement of digital oral healthcare, root canal motors equipped with an emergency stop system designed to prevent needle breakage have become the clinical standard equipment. These advanced devices utilize real-time torque monitoring and intelligent feedback mechanisms, reducing the instrument separation rate to below 0.3% and significantly enhancing treatment safety.
## I. Risk of Broken Needles and Clinical Challenges
In root canal treatment, nickel-titanium instrument fracture is a common complication, occurring in approximately 1.5% to 5% of cases. Residual fractured instruments can lead to periapical inflammation, compromise the adaptation of filling materials, and may even necessitate surgical removal. Traditional preventive measures rely on the dentist's experience to manage torque control, but this subjective human judgment has inherent limitations. For instance, in narrow and curved areas like the mesial root canals of molars, when the instrument is subjected to stress exceeding its elastic limit, plastic deformation can occur within as little as 0.1 seconds, ultimately resulting in fracture.
## II. Technical Principles of the Emergency Stop System
### 1. Real-Time Torque Monitoring
The device features a built-in strain-gauge torque sensor capable of detecting minute torque changes as low as 0.01 N·cm. When the instrument tip encounters apical resistance or calcifications, the sensor transmits the data to the central processor for comparison against a preset safety threshold (typically ranging from 3.0 to 5.0 N·cm).
### 2. Intelligent Reverse Control
The system offers two reversal modes:
- Automatic mode: Immediately after torque exceeds the limit, a 0.5-second counterclockwise rotation is executed to release stress, then resumes forward motion.
- Manual mode: Doctors can actively trigger the reversal via the handle button, ideal for adjusting complex root canal morphologies.
