A dental high-speed handpiece with a four-point water spray and backflow prevention feature

Sep 26,2025

As the core instrument in dental treatments, the performance of high-speed dental handpieces directly impacts both surgical efficiency and patient safety. Traditional devices have long plagued clinical practice with issues such as cross-infection caused by backflow contamination and inadequate cooling, as well as equipment wear and tear. However, an innovative model integrating four-point water spray and anti-backflow technology has redefined treatment standards through groundbreaking advancements, emerging as an indispensable "safety guardian" in modern dentistry.

However, the innovative models integrating four-point water spray and anti-backflow technology have redefined treatment standards through groundbreaking advancements, emerging as an indispensable "safety guardian" in modern dentistry.

## I. Anti-Reflux Technology: The "Protective Shield" That Blocks Cross-Infection

Traditional dental high-speed handpieces, when stopped, generate negative pressure due to the inertia of the bur, which can draw blood, saliva, and microorganisms from the patient’s oral cavity back into the internal channels of the handpiece—creating a potential source of cross-contamination. Studies have shown that devices without anti-retraction technology can lead to bacterial counts exceeding 10⁵ CFU/ml in the integrated treatment unit water system after use, with pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus being isolated.

The four-point spray-type model features a built-in check valve and a mechanical braking system, providing dual protection:

1. **Check Valve Design**: A one-way valve is installed in the water supply line, allowing water to flow in only one direction and completely preventing oral contaminants from flowing back into the treatment unit’s water system.

## II. Four-Point Water Spray Design: The "Temperature Butler" for Precise Cooling

If the heat generated during high-speed cutting isn’t cooled off promptly, it can lead to thermal damage of dental tissues, causing postoperative sensitivity or even pulp necrosis. Traditional single- or dual-point water spray designs often have coverage blind spots, whereas the four-point water spray system achieves 360° cooling with no dead angles through the following innovations:

1. **Multi-Angle Jetting**: Four water nozzles are arranged around the drill bit to create a three-dimensional mist network, ensuring that the cutting area temperature remains consistently below 55°C.
