Curing light: The Key to Light Intensity in Dental Restoration

The light intensity of a Curing light is not necessarily the higher the better. Experts point out that the mechanical strength of light-cured photosensitive resin is closely related to the number of long-chain macromolecules in the resin. The more the number, the better the mechanical properties. If too high light intensity is used, the molecules in the resin may not be fully mobile and will be cured, resulting in the generation of a large number of short-chain molecules, which not only reduces the mechanical properties of the resin, but also may cause cracks at the junction of the resin and the tooth cavity.

That is, use a lower light intensity in the initial stage to promote the movement of resin molecules and the formation of long-chain macromolecules, and then gradually increase the light intensity for rapid curing, so as to obtain the best curing effect.
