Why won't the endodontic motor (root canal preparation machine) file engage?

Jun 25,2025

Today, we'll address a common problem many dentists encounter: files getting stuck in their endodontic motors. Let's explore the cause and solution. The correct procedure is to hold the file, align it with the motor's shaft hole, and gently rotate it until you hear a "click." This confirms proper seating. After installation, do not press the rear cover. Try pulling the file; if it doesn't come out, it's securely in place. Only press the rear cover to remove the file; it's not needed for installation.

Today, I'll help everyone solve a problem many doctors encounter: the endodontic file keeps getting stuck in the endodontic motor (root canal machine). Let's figure out what's causing this issue.

First, the correct method is to hold the file, align it with the shaft hole of the handpiece, and gently rotate it until you hear a "click." This indicates successful engagement. After installation, do not press the rear cover. Try pulling it out by hand; if it doesn't come out, it's successfully engaged. Press the rear cover only when removing the file. Installation does not require pressing the rear cover.
